Maybe* in the press over Independents’ Day weekend 2022

It's been a busy first half of the year at Maybe* HQ and we've kicked off the second half with one of our favourite celebrations, Independents' Day. We're delighted that our support and campaign for this years indie weekend, made 21 headlines in both national and local news.

While earning column inches is definitely not why we do, what we do, it always gives us a glow to be recognised. Here's a round up of some of our coverage including The Daily Express, Better Retailing and a selection from the press pack across the breadth of the country.

Better Retailing encourages readers to support Independents' Day

Our partnership with Independents' Day made the news at Better Retailing. The publication made sure its readers knew how they could support the campaign with posters and across social media.

Indie case study inspires in The Express

The Express writes

"Recent research also points to an uptick in awareness about indie shops with 52 percent seeing customers wanting to support them. This weekend (July 2 and 3) marks this year’s Independents’ Day, a campaign showcasing small retail’s contribution around the UK. (www.independentsdayuk.org)."

The online edition of the Daily Express told the story of how an indie fashion retailer in South East London used social media to grow her business, while highlighting our research with Independents Day which points to the increased public support for our independent businesses.

Toy World shouts out Local Rewards

The Maybe* loyalty programme, Local Rewards, got a mention from Toy World.

The toy sector thought leaders write

"In partnership with Local Rewards, the organiser of Independents’ Day UK – a campaign that encourages shoppers to use the goods and services of independent businesses – is encouraging consumers to make an extra effort to ‘shop small’ this weekend from 2nd-3rd July."

Merseyside success story

In Liverpool, Independents' Day was in the spotlight alongside a local creative hub. The hub used Independents' Day weekend as an opportunity to encourage shoppers to support indie artists and art spaces, reminding us its not just about independent shops, but also about the local indie creative talent in our towns and cities.

Supporting Local Rewards in South Wales

Our friends at the South Wales Argus flew the flag for an array of their indies and wrote

"In Gwent we have an array of fantastic independent businesses, from breweries to restaurants, record stores to something a bit different.

Independents' Day is a campaign that, in partnership with Local Rewards, exists to support and promote independent retail businesses across the UK."
